How to create billable items

You can create and maintain an inventory of billable items in Stripe's Product Catalogue. In the Product Catalogue, when you create a product, you'll be asked for the following basic details:

  • Name (as visible to you when raising an invoice, and your customers)

  • Description

  • An image (this won't generally be visible within Hero)

  • Recurring/One-off (you should select One-off to add this item through Hero)

There are further advanced options you can set including:

  • Price description - This is useful if you want to add multiple prices to a particular item (e.g. Members and Non-Members). The price description pulls into Hero and will allow you to differentiate between the prices.

  • Lookup key - This is useful for updating a price in the future

Adding billable items from within Hero

The other way to create billable items (or Products) is through Hero. When adding items to an invoice, there is an option to "Create new Stripe product", at which point you'll be asked to provide:

  • The item name

  • The item list price

The item will be created in the Stripe product catalogue and stored for future use.
