Multiple instances of EMIS Web running on the PC

Learn how to use Task Manager or restart your PC to restore Hero Sidekick connection.

Updated this week

If Hero Sidekick isn’t connecting properly to EMIS Web, the most common cause is multiple copies of EMIS running in the background. This can prevent the Sidekick toolbar from launching or detecting the correct patient.

Quick Fix: Restart your PC

The fastest way to resolve this is to:

  1. Close all EMIS Web windows

  2. Restart your computer

After rebooting, launch EMIS Web and Sidekick as normal.

Manual Fix (Advanced)

If you want to fix it without restarting:

  1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and select Task Manager

  2. In the Processes tab, scroll down to Background processes

  3. Look for additional instances of EMIS Web (you may see more than one)

  4. Click on each EMIS Web entry and press End Task

Once only one instance of EMIS Web remains, restart Hero Sidekick.

Still having issues?

  • Double-check that EMIS is fully closed before reopening

  • If problems persist, contact Hero support at [email protected]
