Learn what patients see when making an appointment booking via a self-booking link

Updated over a week ago

When a patient receives a self-booking link via SMS or Email, they will open the link and then run through the following steps.

Step #1 - Verify identity

Each self-booking link is unique to a specific patient. The patient will need to enter their date of birth to proceed. If the wrong date of birth is entered 10 times, the link will be locked.

Step #2 - Select an appointment time

The patient reviews the appointment type details and the 'Before you book' alert (this can be configured in the Hero appointment type setup). They are shown a 'Next available' appointment slot, or can scroll through all appointments in the future.

Step #3 - Review appointment details and complete questionnaires

The patient has the opportunity to review the selected appointment details, and will be asked to complete any associated intake forms (these can be configured within the Hero settings). Once completed, the booking can be confirmed.

Note: Appointment slots are held for 15 minutes once selected. During this time, the slot will be unavailable to any other patient seeking to book online or via a self-booking link. The slot can still be booked directly into the EMIS or Systm1 diary.
