What is the EMIS search?

You can now use the patient search bar to search for your patients from EMIS, this means, if the patient has not yet been registered in Hero, you no longer have to manually register them.

How do I use the EMIS search?

If your Hero instance is connected to EMIS, the search bar will search EMIS by default. You can search for patients using their name, EMIS ID, date of birth or address and this will search through your EMIS instance and retrieve patients. Once you have entered the details, you will need to press enter or click 'Search'. Now you have clicked on a patient and gone to the patient dashboard, the patient will be automatically registered in Hero.

How to I search for patients in Hero instead?

If you are looking for a patient that has booked through Hero but may not be registered in EMIS, you may want to search for them in Hero. You can switch to the Hero search by clicking on the arrow new to the 'Search' button. In the dropdown you can switch between Hero and EMIS search.

How do I use the Hero search?

Once you have switched to use the Hero search, it will only retrieve patients that are already registered in your Hero instance. You can search by name, date of birth or NHS number. To do this you will need to select which demographic you are using to search by clicking on it in the drop down. Once you have entered the details, you will need to press enter or click 'Search'.

What if I cannot find a patient?

If you are searching Hero for a patient and they do not appear, this may be because they are not registered in Hero yet, you can use the EMIS search to find them and automatically register them in Hero.

If you are using the EMIS search to find a patient but they do not appear, this may be because they are only registered in Hero and not EMIS. To resolve this, find the patient in Hero using the Hero search. You can then use their details to manually register the patient in EMIS. Once this is complete, copy the EMIS ID and add it to the Hero patient.

If you have searched both EMIS and Hero and are still unable to find the patient, first check that they are registered in EMIS, if not, you will need to register them and then use the EMIS search to pull them into Hero.

If the patient is in EMIS but the search does not find them, please contact [email protected] with the EMIS ID so we can investigate.
